10 Things to do in June for Summer Learning

With hundreds of programs to choose from this summer, here is a highlight of 10 events coming up this month.

1. Goldilocks and the Three Bears

All ages. A bold little girl named Goldilocks finds the house of the bears and barges in before being discovered by the three bears. This puppet show is at Parr Library:

  • Monday, June 26 at 11am
  • Wednesday, June 28 at 10:30am
  • Thursday, June 29 at 11am

2. Welcome to “Korea in the Library”

All ages. Experience Korea in the Library! Learn how to write your name in Korean, make colorful paper tiles and play games that are popular in Korea. Thursday, June 8 at 3pm at Haggard Library.


3. Waste Ace Fair

All ages. Enjoy hands-on learning stations focused on essential knowledge about recycling from City of Plano’s Sustainability and Environmental Education Division (SEED). Monday, June 19 at 3pm at Harrington Library


4. Cool Science, Clean Creeks

All ages. Who lives in the creek? How clean is their water? Join for a close-up look at our aquatic nature friends with City of Plano’s SEED. Wednesday, June 28 at 3pm at Parr Library. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the workshop begins.


5. STEAM Stop (all ages)

All ages. Stop by and learn a little bit about all things STEAM! Complete experiments, play with circuits, build things and sharpen math skills with games.

  • Wednesday, June 23 at 3pm at Davis Library
  • Friday, June 25 at 3pm at Harrington Library

6. Crochet with Teen Street Team

Teens grades 8-12. The library’s Teen Street Team is hosting a workshop all about the fiber art of crochet so attendees can learn the basics. Thursday, June 22 at 3pm at Haggard Library. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the workshop begins.


7. Adventure Gaming Club

Teens grades 6-12. AGC meets Thursdays, June 22 – August 3 from 2-4pm at Davis Library. Join us for a series of Dungeons & Dragons adventures! Learn the game as you play as a warrior or mage in a fantasy world. Attend weekly for achievement-based bonuses. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the workshop begins.


8. The Writer’s Block

Adults. Monday, June 19 at 7pm at Schimelpfenig Library. Join aspiring and experienced local writers to exercise your creativity, share tips and request critiques. Each meeting offers unique writing prompts for participants. Come prepared to share or sit back and join the discussion.


9. Sit & Stitch

Adults. Monday, June 26 at 7pm at Haggard Library. Do you knit, crochet, cross-stitch or have another hobby that uses needle and thread? Connect with other creators while you discuss your project, share tips and tricks, and chat


10. Adinkra Stamps

Ages 13+. Tuesday, June 27 at 6:30pm at Davis Library. Learn about the Ghanaian tradition of stamping patterns onto cloth and their rich symbolism, then create your own pattern. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the workshop begins.
