What Is a STEAM Kit?

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Currently, Plano Public Library has 100 STEAM kits, available to check out for free with your Plano Public Library card.

We design our STEAM kits with all ages in mind. Preschool and Elementary STEAM kits set up children for academic success, while Teen and Adult kits explore different technologies and artistic skills. There’s something for the whole family!

STEAM kits come to you packed in plastic boxes, which vary in size from the compact Teen kits all the way to our Straw Rocket Launcher kit, which comes in a box roughly the size of a small bathtub! Inside, you will find books, DVDs, activities and more—everything you need for a thorough introduction to any given topic.

Checking Out and Returning STEAM Kits

Place a STEAM kit on hold for pickup at any of the five Plano Public Library locations. To return a kit, no need to try and fit it through the book drop: when you come to the library, bring the STEAM Kit to the Information desk.

Depending on the time available, staff will either check the contents of the kit as soon as you bring it in or over the course of the day. If something is missing or we have a question, we will reach out; otherwise, it goes on to the next person!
