Let’s Get Investing

There are many aspects of earning, saving and investing money that it can get confusing and overwhelming really quickly! Throughout the year, your library has free financial workshops for all ages to work on their money goals – including helping little kids understand the basics. Here are a few of these workshops coming up:

Art of Money (All Ages) | Schimelpfenig – July 11 at 3 pm | Harrington – July 20 at 3 pm

Get ready for money-making mania as we explore what money looks like around the world and then create your own currency designs. Who will you put on your currency? Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the program begins

Building Wealth for Teens (Grades 6-12) | Haggard | July 15 at 3 pm

Do you know how much basic living expenses cost? Learn basic financial concepts and develop a plan to reach your short and long-term financial goals

Counting Coins (Grades K-5) | Davis | July 19 at 3 pm and 6:30 pm

Come enjoy hands-on activities that strengthen your child’s knowledge of money and how to count it. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the program begins

Investments: Getting Started | Haggard & Virtual | July 20 at 6:30 pm

Learn the language of investing, including terms and concepts that may be unfamiliar to you. Understanding some of the core ideas can help give you the confidence to get started. Presented by Bank of America

Light It Up (Grades 6-12) | Davis | July 23 at 3 pm

Make your own lightsaber, galaxy glass art, or creation of your choosing. Work on fun projects while gaining hands-on experience managing money. Take your project home or give it as a gift. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the program begins

Party Planning (Grades K-5) | Parr | July 24 at 3 pm

Your birthday is coming up and you want to plan a party. Set your budget and learn to plan the best party for you and your friends. You will make decisions about elements like cake and entertainment. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the program begins

SNAP Career Loteria (Teens, Adults) | Haggard | July 25 at 6:30 pm

Learn about different careers through a Loteria-style game in a sensory-friendly environment. If you have any questions or accommodation requests, please email snapprograms@plano.gov in advance. Recommended for ages 13+. Supporting Neurodivergent Access to Programming (SNAP): SNAP programs are sensory-friendly and targeted toward the needs of neurodivergent children, teens, adults and their families/caregivers. Art Shop (All Ages) | Davis | July 28 at 3 pm

What can you create with $5.00? Browse our art shop for supplies to make your masterpiece! With play money received at the store entrance, purchase paper, markers, glue and scissors and perhaps some specialty supplies to make your work of art spectacular. Spend however you like, but budget wisely. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the program begins

Investments: Understanding Risk vs Return | Davis & Virtual | August 17 at 6:30 pm

With so many investment possibilities, how do you choose? Start by considering your goals, risk tolerance, time horizon and liquidity needs. Knowing what you want to achieve makes it easier to find the right mix—or asset allocation—to help you get there. Presented by Bank of America
