Plano Public Library now offers Older Adults Bags to encourage conversation and engagement between older adults with signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Bags fit into two major themes: “Sensory” and “Reminisce”.
Sensory bags contain items and activities that help reduce anxiety, improve mobility, stimulate senses and provide cognitive engagement. Topics include:
- Calming Anxieties
- Building Strength
- Brain Games
- Motor Skills
Reminisce bags are designed to spark conversation and social engagement through themed items and activities. Topics include:
- Road Trips
- Traveling by Train
- Life on the Farm
You can place a hold on an Older Adult Bag by searching “Older adult bag” in the library catalog and selecting “Place Hold” next to the item. When you click on the item name (e.g. Calming anxieties: sensory older adult bag) you can see what is included in the bag, including book titles. Older Adult Bags can check out for three weeks and can be renewed once if not requested by someone else.
