Reel Reading: True Crime

Do you enjoy a good binge-fest over books, tv series, or films? Join us to talk about all things binge-worthy in our new Reel Reading club for Teens.

Reel Reading is a teen-specific book, film and TV club meeting virtually on the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. via Zoom. This club is for ages 13-18 and each month will have a genre or theme to explore. Register for our next session here.

Teen Street Team Member Tai is our blogger for this month and talks about their favorite true crime materials.

Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, Jack the Ripper, and other infamous criminals have inspired a number of books, documentaries, and movies in the world of crime and mystery. This month’s Reel Reading meeting is about just that, True Crime. Personally, I like to spend time watching true crime YouTube documentaries while doing homework, or listening to a podcast episode of Crime Junkie while doing laundry.

Recently, I’ve been really getting into Criminal Minds. It’s such a binge-worthy show. Criminal Minds showcases a team of FBI profilers who go around solving murders and catching killers. Although the show itself is fiction, many of its episodes are based on real cases, which makes the show even more unsettling. If you’re a diehard True Crime fan who is drawn to mysteries and murder, Criminal Minds is a must-watch!

Here are a few more recommendations of True Crime to indulge in:

Books:

Movies:

  • Zodiac – DVD
  • The Irishman – Blu-ray | DVD
  • Foxcatcher – DVD
  • Bonnie and Clyde – DVD
  • True Crime in the 20th Century – Kanopy
