Reel Reading: Fantasy

Do you like tales of dragons, armed knights, and princesses in danger? Or do you like detailed worlds involving magic and superpowers, with one mighty enemy to destroy? If you do, you should come join us for the July Reel Reading event that takes place on July 27th at 7:00 PM. We will talk all about fantastical stories in books, movies, and TV shows through an awesome zoom program!

Reel Reading is a teen-specific book, film and TV club meeting virtually on the fourth Tuesday each month at 7 p.m. via Zoom. This club is for ages 13-18 and each month will have a genre or theme to explore. Register for our next session here.

Teen Street Team member Brianna is our guest blogger for this month, and talks about her favorite parts of fantasy novels.

My name is Brianna and I am a member of Plano Library’s Teen Street Team. I absolutely love fantasy novels, I think they are at the top of my list. From classics like Harry Potter and Narnia, to the complicated and labyrinthine series by Brandon Sanderson or Robert Jordan, fantasy is incredible. Once I see that the opening of a book contains a map of the fictional landscape, my excitement is palpable. I just love being able to let my mind drift to a completely different world (quite literally), different languages, species, and supernatural powers.

Of course, TV shows and movies nowadays are extremely adept at CGI and effects, bringing these storylines to real life. I love watching things like The Lord of the Rings movies and the Harry Potter movies, they are pretty much always playing in my house. If you enjoy fantasy as much as I do, be sure to log on and chat with us about it! See you there!
