Reel Reading: Graphic Novels

Do you enjoy a good binge fest over books, TV series or films? Join us to talk about all things binge-worthy in our virtual club just for teens.

Reel Reading is a teen-specific book, film and TV club meeting virtually on the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. via Zoom. This club is for ages 13-18 and each month will have a genre or theme to explore. Register for our next session here.

Teen Street Team member Ashvin is our guest blogger for this month, and writes about some favorite graphic novels:

Are you a comic book fanatic? Or have you not gotten around to reading one? Whichever it is, join us on Tuesday, December 29 for Reel Reading at 7 p.m. to discuss all things graphic novels.

Some of the first and most recent books that I picked up from the library included graphic novels. Out of everything, I have always enjoyed the drawings found in graphic novels. These drawings bring the words to life.

The first graphic novel I read was The Secret of the Unicorn from The Adventures of Tintin series. In the book, three ships contain the clues necessary to finding treasure, and after Tintin purchases one at a market, someone steals the ship. The book takes winding turns until Tintin gathers all three clues, and the following novel covers his journey of trying to acquire the treasure. Because I enjoyed the first book so much, I read most of the series, and the Tintin series had drawings that helped me keep a sustained interest.

Reel Reading’s meeting on graphic novels will cover Tintin and your other favorites through discussions that highlight how each is unique. At all meetings, Reel Reading also provides more information on some of the free library services. Through Reel Reading, we hope you can walk away with a newfound or strengthened excitement for reading, and we invite you and your friends to join.

In addition to The Adventures of Tintin series, our Teen Street Team Librarians have put together a Graphic Novel reading recommendation list – search the library catalog for others:
