Littles at the Library: Fall Preview

You’re never too little to learn! The newest Engage brochure is here, and that means another round of learning and fun for you and your little at Plano Public Library. Whether you have a brand-new baby, a rambunctious toddler or a curious preschooler, we have something for you. Keep reading for a preview of the events coming to a library near you this fall.

For Babies

Even the littlest baby is learning every day. These programs are designed for babies between 0 and 18 months, with developmentally appropriate activities that help little minds absorb new concepts and explore with their senses. You’ll find plenty of tips for grown-ups, too. We’ll explore sensory play, music, art, and more! Join us for:

  • Baby Bach to enjoy the magic of music
  • Busy Babies to explore sensory play and make your own manipulative
  • Baby Picasso to get messy with hands-on art
  • Move Baby to learn new ways to move and explore
  • Snuggle Time to combine cuddles and sleepy time stories

For Toddlers

Toddlers are an exploratory force ready to engage the world with their entire body. These programs are designed for children between 18 and 36 months, with activities that focus on the unique needs of a toddler’s growing brain, sense of self, and body awareness. We’ll explore art, hands-on play, and more! Join us for:

  • Felt Tales to explore storytelling and free play
  • Mini Monet to get messy with hands-on art

For Toddlers and Preschoolers

Little minds are wired to absorb as much information as possible. These programs are designed for children 2 to 5 years old, with activities that allow you to explore your child’s interests, ask questions, engage with multiple senses, and build on important early literacy concepts. We’ll explore dinosaurs, movement, playdough, and more! Join us for:

  • Block Party to build and stack together
  • Dance Party to move to beat with songs and stories
  • Dino Lab to celebrate everything dinosaur
  • Mother Goose Mania to celebrate your favorite nursery rhymes
  • Playdough Playdate to create hands-on with playdough
  • Scarf Play to explore music and movement with colorful scarves
  • Space Explorers to discover the wonders of space
  • Super Shapes to explore shapes and colors

For Preschoolers

Preschoolers are often on the move, exploring, questioning and adventuring. These programs are designed for children 3 to 5 years old, with activities that allow you to investigate and create together. We’ll explore music, geography, art, movement, and more! Join us for:

  • Alphabet Soup to identify and discover letters
  • Art Start to release creativity through process art
  • Color Camp to explore different colors
  • Exploring My Community to learn about your neighborhood
  • Feathered Friends to celebrate birds
  • Fun with Numbers to practice number skills
  • Insect Investigators to explore the world of insects
  • Me on the Map to introduce basic geography concepts
  • Messy Play with Clay to create hands-on
  • Mini Maestros to learn basic musical concepts
  • Ocean Lab to adventure with life under the sea
  • Parachute Party to move around with giant parachutes

Special Events

In addition to regularly offered early learning programs, you can also join us for some of these special events including:

  • Chinese Storytime, a storytime presented in Chinese for ages 0 to 5 years.
  • Family Place Playgroup, a play-based program for caregivers with children aged 0 to 3 years. In addition to meeting other families and playing together, you can ask questions from our featured community resource professionals. Space is limited and registration is required for this five-week program series, offered at both Schimelpfenig and Harrington this fall.
  • Glow in the Dark Storytime, where you can enjoy storytime under the black lights.

Storytimes and Puppet Shows

Don’t forget about storytime! Did you know that we offer 35 storytimes for different ages each week? Be sure to check out the Reading Readiness Storytime calendar, as some storytime schedules have changed. Some buildings have added new storytimes, too! We’ll also be hosting puppet shows throughout the fall. Join us for showings of:

  • Big Pumpkin
  • Gingerbread Boy
  • Little Red Hen
  • Over the Moon
  • Sitting Down to Eat
  • Three Little Pigs
