Reel Reading: Horror
Do you enjoy a good binge fest over books, TV series or films? Join us to talk about all things binge-worthy in our virtual club just for teens.
Reel Reading is a teen-specific book, film and TV club meeting virtually on the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. via Zoom. This club is for ages 13-18 and each month will have a genre or theme to explore. For October we’re getting into the spooky season with horror on Tuesday, October 27. Register to join us here.
Teen Street Team member Aliyah is our guest blogger for this month, and talks about her introduction to the horror genre:
Although I’m not generally very fond of the Horror genre (I like to stick to more dystopian and fantasy titles!), I thoroughly enjoyed Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman! The storyline and writing style of Hoffman ensures a great read! This novel is great for anyone looking for a spooky but fun read, and it addresses captivating subjects like witchcraft, spells, ghosts and family.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was how the author was elaborate and provided many intricate details. This novel is quite whimsical, and her choice of words allowed me to actually see the story unfold in my mind. When you read this novel, you feel like you are actually being transported into this fantastic and bizarre world of these two sisters (that you will soon meet, hopefully!).
I was actually introduced to this book through a fellow Teen Street Team member while planning our October “Reel Reading” meeting. If you aren’t aware of “Reel Reading,” it is an all-teen book, TV show, and film club in which teens from our Plano community come together and discuss our next greatest reads or our next binge-worthy TV show or movie. “Reel Reading” is made up of compassionate, patient, and open-minded teens that are all meeting for a common purpose. It is a judgement free zone, and I highly encourage any teen in Plano to join us!
Without “Reel Reading” I wouldn’t have come across Practical Magic and I can’t wait to come across other fascinating titles!

In addition to Practical Magic, here are a few horror suggestions from our TST Librarians. You can also browse the Horror genre subject in our eBook collection for more eBooks and eAudiobooks available with your library card:
