Career Resources for December

To those looking for a job, a career change or wanting to enhance their skills, check our some the library and local resources.

Your library can help you with personal and professional develop through a variety of hands-on, in-person classes as well as through our collection in print and online. All of our business and career classes have ended for the fall season, but be on the lookout for classes beginning again January 2020.

From computer basics to photo editing, your library has you covered

If you’re looking for technology classes to get you an edge above the competition, we have plenty coming up at the library. These classes are free, and registration is not required. During each class we will walk you through the technology or software through various activities, and share additional resources from the library and online to help you achieve your goals:

  • Excel – Intro: Saturday, December 7 at 10 am at Schimelpfenig Library
  • Excel – Tools & Tricks: Saturday, December 7 at 10 am at Davis Library
  • Word – Common Tasks: Saturday, December 7 at 10 am at Haggard Library
  • Computer Basics: Friday, December 13 at 10 am at Schimelpfenig Library
  • HTML Basics: Wednesday, December 11 at 7 pm at Parr Library
  • After Effects Basics: Monday, December 16 at 7 pm at Parr Library
  • Excel – Formulas & Functions: Saturday, December 21 at 10 am at Schimelpfenig Library
  • Lynda.com: Saturday, December 21 at 10 am at Davis Library

Upcoming local professional development and career fairs

Your local library has computers, Internet and printers when you need to print out your resume and cover letters. You will need a library card to utilize computer and Internet at our five locations. See our website about printing, including wireless printing from home or your mobile device.

On Monday, December 2 from 2 – 4 pm at the Plano ISD Sockwell Center, Plano Independent School District a job fair for Food and Nutritional Services as well as Auxiliary and Support Staff (bus drivers, PASAR specialists and classroom support staff). Walk-ins are welcome, no need to register for this job fair.


Free and open to the public, attend this Career Design Workshop from Pivot Talent Group on Tuesday, December 3 to learn about effective relationships, how to become outcome-focused and increase your capacity to lead change. The Dallas Career Fair, of the National Career Fairs, is coming up on Tuesday, December 3 from 11 am – 2 pm at the Crowne Plaza Dallas Market Center. This is free for job seekers to attend, you can register online here.
