What’s new in #PPLSummerLearning?

Summer Learning 2020 is virtual! Join us online for programs, storytimes, weekly learning challenges and more.

Here’s what’s happening this week:

1,000,000 Minute Community Reading Challenge

Help us reach our community goal of reading 1,000,000 minutes this summer. Our total so far is over 17,000 minutes! You can track our progress on our website at any time. Each time you hit a 100-minute milestone, let us know. You’ll get a personalized certificate and your minutes will help move our tracker forward.

Weekly Challenges

We’ll be posting new challenges to inspire your learning each week. Once you complete the challenge, submit your name and receive an email with your personalized badge. How many can you collect? For the week of June 29 – July 5, we’re all about creating and sharing:

Create a Structure

Build a structure out of blocks, make a fort out of blankets, or build something totally unique. Share a picture with us at #PPLSummerLearning. Be sure to let us know when you’ve completed the challenge for a personalized certificate.

Share Your Gratitude

Write a letter or draw a piture and send it to a friend, family member or neighbor to thank them for support or just being themselves! Share who you’ve thanked with us at #PPLSummerLearning. Be sure to let us know when you’ve completed the challenge for a personlalized certificate.

Virtual Programs

We’ll be hosting programs all summer on Facebook, Zoom and our YouTube channel. Check out the Weekly Programming Schedule on our Summer Learning website for complete details. Topics include STEAM programs for all ages, early learning programs, performer programs, storytimes, and programs geared toward elementary-aged kids, teens, adults and seniors. Here are some highlights this week:

  • Virtual Field Trip: Ashikaga Flower Park – Are you ready for a virtual field trip? Join us as we visit the Ashikaga Flower Park in Japan! This adventure departs Monday, June 29 at 3 p.m. on Facebook.
  • Building Your Business with ReferenceUSA – Learn to use ReferenceUSA to start a business, conduct market research, find marketing prospects and more. Registration is required for this webinar, airing Wednesday, July 1 at 1 p.m.
  • Connecting Seniors: “Wasn’t That a Book?” – So many books have been made into movies and TV shows, it’s hard to keep up. We’ll talk about some current ones, as well as some oldies but goodies. Be ready to tell us your favorites, and to learn about some you’ll want to check out from the library. Registration is required for this program, meeting Thursday, July 2 at 1 p.m.
  • Fun with Brett Roberts – The Magic Wizard makes his helpers (the audience!) the stars in this fun-filled show full of magic, dragons, and fairies. This program airs on Facebook Thursday, July 2 at 3 p.m.
