Teen Street Team Recommends: Kanopy

Teen Street Team member Aaryaa has recently been using Kanopy and offers this recommendation.
Kanopy, the on-demand film streaming service dedicated to providing access to high-quality films that inspire, entertain, and educate, is available for free through the Plano Public Library. And all you need to access the award-winning classic cinema masterpieces, groundbreaking documentaries, and American independent features, is your library card number and a free Kanopy account! And of the coolest things about this streaming service is that its selection includes films from beyond the traditional canon including “lost” films by and about African Americans, Native Americans, LGBTQ+ people, and women.
I’m personally ecstatic to share my thoughts and recommendations on this film streaming service because I’ve personally used it quite a bit after learning about it in order to look into everything from potential future careers to some of my favorite movies. Last summer, I read the book War and Peace, and I was determined to find the movie online to watch. However, I was unable to do so for free. Later, I learned of this amazing service, Kanopy, and lo and behold it was available to watch completely for free!
However, Kanopy doesn’t just offer entertaining movies for adults or teens to watch but has a section called Kanopy Kids which contains many of my favorites from when I was a child including Sesame Street and the “True Story of The Three Little Pigs”. Watching these TV shows brought along a sense of nostalgia and brought me back to when my friends and I would sit together watching this movie in school. There’s truly something for everyone in the family on Kanopy, including your little ones, all for free.
But that’s not all. Kanopy offers a wide range of historical and inspirational movies for individuals of all ages, along with short lessons teaching skills such as data management for employee training. Due to my interest in cloud computing, I watched the three-part series available on Kanopy and absolutely loved the insight that it provided. Moreover, there were also many videos/documentaries illustrating the responsibilities of professionals in a workforce which helped me better understand what I wanted to do in the future.
Kanopy truly is an educational and entertaining streaming service that offers a plethora of movies and TV shows for everyone!
