Reel Reading is a teen-specific book, film and TV club meeting virtually on the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. via Zoom. This club is for ages 13-18 and each month will have a genre or theme to explore. Register for our next session here.

Teen Street Team member Diya is our guest blogger for this month and tells us about their favorite fantasy reads.

Hi, Readers! The genre for this month’s Reel Reading is a pretty popular one: Fantasy!

When I was younger, I hated reading. I found it extremely boring and thought it was a waste of time. That was when Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling found its way into my life. This series had been recommended to me multiple times by many people, but I couldn’t see past the thickness of the books and didn’t want to read it. When I finally decided to give it a try, it completely changed my attitude towards reading. I loved the way the author was able to create a hidden side of the world that we live in, with likable characters and an intriguing plotline.

Fantasy is my favorite genre. I love how it helps pull you out of the real world and gives you an outlet to really use your imagination. There are no limits to what can happen in the Fantasy genre and you get to experience things you’d never experience in real life, from battling monsters to meeting elves and fairies.

You have a chance to experience all these things and more by joining our teen-led book club on March 28th from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. to talk to other teens, introduce your favorite Fantasy books, shows, and movies, and discover new ones! Have a friend who loves Fantasy? Bring them with you!
