Ready to travel? To virtually explore the world? Join me on an adventure to the Rijksmuseum!

Below is the process step-by-step, along with additional activities and library resources.


Step-by-Step Instructions

Google Rijksmuseum. Click on the map view.

Zoom in close to the museum and pick up the street view tool and select a location along a blue line to drop.

Explore by clicking on the arrows and x’s to virtually explore the museum. When there is a blue dot, click that to find more information. Use the back arrow at top left to go back to the map and drop street view tool again in another part of the museum.


Guided Activities

1. The Battle of Waterloo by Jan Willem Pieneman was painted in 1824 and is the largest painting at the Rijksmuseum. The painting depicts a real piece of Dutch history. What happened? Who was involved? Research using the library database, Credo.

2. Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Mondrian, and Hals are all famous Dutch artists. Select one to research using a library database and write a short biography. A template linked below is provided to get started.

3. Also located in Amsterdam is the Anne Frank House, a museum dedicated to the life and story of Anne Frank and her family, who hid in the attic of this home during World War II. Use the museum’s website to learn more about Anne Frank. List five facts and share with friends and family.
