Find Your New Hobby!

Use your local library to explore new hobbies and boost your creative skills.

Interested in starting a new hobby, art or flex your creative skills? Whether online instruction, take-home kits, or in-house programs are your style, Plano Public Library has you covered.

Hobbies & Crafts Database

Our Hobbies & Crafts database is a comprehensive reference center that offers patrons a wide range of topics to explore. Learn about beading, egg art, woodworking, stained glass, role-playing games, model building, needlepoint and so much more. You’ll need your library card number to access this database.

Love baking? The Hobbies & Crafts database highlights cake decorating and provides full-color magazine articles, as well as step-by-step project instructions. The Home & Garden section provides information on candle making, soap making, wreath making, wedding crafts, gardening and more.

Art STEAM Kits

If you aren’t sure where to start in your hobby journey, we have a few art STEAM Kits to get you going! You can check out kits on crochet, knitting, calligraphy and brush lettering, origami, watercolor, drawing, macrame, embroidery and many more. These STEAM Kits are geared toward ages 16+, check out for three weeks, and come with the tools, instruction and inspiration you need to begin.

Use the online library catalog to explore these kits and place a request. You can pick up a STEAM Kit as any of our five locations. You can also look to see which kits are readily available the next time you are in the library.

Browse the physical book collection

You can always browse the physical collection at the library – we have many books and magazines on home DIY, baking, making, gardening and so much more. If there is a particular project or subject you are looking into, search for it on our catalog or ask a librarian for available resources.
